Abstract
Bean production in the hot valleys of the Ecuadorian Andes, such as Chota Valley, is severely affected by bean weevil Acanthosce1ides obtectus Say (42). This research was conducted at the Mascarilla location, in the Chota Valley, with an altitude of 1650 m.s.n.m., an annual precipitation of 350 mm. and an annual average temperature of 19 °C. Studies conducted in this area (49) show that 99% of the farmer’s bean production is affected by weevils during storage, affecting the availability of grain for seed and for consumption, limiting bean production especially when market demands and prices are high.
