Abstract
The Food Balance Sheet for Ecuador shows production, availability and consumption of food in 1968* and its contribution of carbohidrates calories, proteins, vitamins and minerals to the human diet. The poor results point out an alarming scene. It is considered that greater efforts should be devoted to the planning availability of food products in order that they reach all sectors of the country's population, but complementing it with a policy of diversification of the diet, by educating people in the consumption of high nutrient value food which are presently excluded from the regular diet.
