Abstract

The INIAP's germoplasm bank preserves on field some clonal collections mainly andean roots ana tubers crops. At present these species suffer a high grade of genetic erosion. In order to know the genetic diversity and promote the utilization of this germoplasm, it is necessary to characterize and evaluate through the use o f morphological and agronomical markers; which must be complemented with markers a little or not influenced by the environment like isozymes electrophoresis and randomic amplified polymorphic DNA. This will allow the detection of promissory materials and its possible to use them on breeding programs. This investigation had as objective the study of the genetic diversity of jicama (.Polymnia ■ sonchifolia P&E) and miso (Mirabilis expansa R&P). This material is conserved ex situ in the National Department of Plant Genetic Resources and Biotechnology (DENAREF) of lNIAP.
