In order to understand the genetic diversity of physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) in Ecuador, microsatellite type molecular markers were used in an analysis of the genetic variability of the collection of the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP). Of 158 accessions, 151 were collected in six provinces of Ecuador, 4 were from Peru and 3 from Brazil. As samples for the study, 15 grams of young buds were taken from one plant of each accession and were kept on 50 grams of silica gel for drying. Once dried, the samples were macerated with a solution of sodium metabisulfite as antioxidant and stored at room temperature prior to extraction of genomic DNA. Of the ten SSRs primers tested, only two showed polymorphic or informative (J-26 and J-28) patterns, indicating the formation of two major genetic groups and two subgroups. Variability between multilocus genotypes was 13.92%, represented in 22 groups of accessions, while genotypes 20 and 21 presented 44.30% and 15.82% of duplicate accessions.es_ES
